Under the British, this ground was called Patna Lawns or Bankipore Maidan. The British utilized it for polo sports, horse dashing, and as a fairway. During the Indian independence conflict, it transformed into a launchpad for different political developments. The name of this notable ground was changed to Gandhi Maidan when Mahatma Gandhi visited Bihar at the moment of Champaran Satyagraha. Loknayak Jayprakash Narayan propelled ‘Sampoorna Kranti’ from this ground in 1974 to expel Congress from power. At this ground Subhash Chandra Bose had organized a meeting of his Forward Bloc in 1939.
